I always like exploring new options to experience America, and recently was able to enjoy a Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel package.
This unique package, which is nearly All-Inclusive, starts in the quaint Route 66 town of Williams, Arizona, not far from Flagstaff. Park your car in the complimentary parking lot at the hotel and leave it. You won't be needing it.
There are many variations to the packages, but I feel our choice was the best for a quick trip.
Our inclusions were:
*2 Nights at the Grand Canyon Hotel.
*2 Breakfasts and 2 Dinners at the hotel, and Lunch at the Grand Canyon
*Round Trip Train trip experience in the Dome car
*A bus tour of Grand Canyon Highlights
After check in we were directed to the Train Depot, right in the complex, and picked up our nice stack of tickets. We then walked the short block to explore downtown. If you're a fan of the movie Big, be sure and check out Zoltar!
After our dinner at Fred Harvey Restaurant we had a nightcap at Spenser's Pub, all located right on the property.
Morning found us enjoying our provided breakfast then heading over to the Wild West Show a short walk away, again, on property.
We then boarded our train and made our way to our Dome car, where the attendant starting taking care of us and keeping us entertained while we enjoyed the complimentary snacks and beverages as well as beer, wine, and cocktails for an extra charge.
Our scenic train ride took a bit over two hours and then there we were, right at the Grand Canyon. Our Grand Tour bus was waiting and we loaded up and headed off for our complimentary lunch at the Maswik Lodge in the park.
Our very knowledgeable and entertaining bus driver took us to highlights of the South Rim, with enough time to appreciate the views and shop.
We then boarded our train to head back to Williams.
The experience wasn't over just yet! We enjoyed a couple of talented entertainers, but oh no! Are those robbers approaching out train on horseback? Indeed they were and robbing took place. The bad guys were handled and we arrived safely back in Williams just in time for dinner.
Another evening to explore, a final breakfast the next morning, and we were on our way to our next adventure.
This is a wonderful quick trip or stop during a longer road trip. You get an essence of the Grand Canyon, a relaxing and scenic train ride and entertainment and well themed and comfortable lodging. Add in the included dining and it's a great value. If you'd like a more immersive Grand Canyon trip, there are options that include stays at the Maswik Lodge, right in the park.
