Souvenirs come and go, but an enduring and lasting treasure, at a bargain price, comes from the talented snippers creating silhouettes on Main Street in Disneyland. The shop is tiny, but the lines can become long, so check out what opening times are and arrive a few minutes before.
You can mix it up by having 2 or three people silhouetted at once, have a person silhouetted with a favorite character, or even pet. The artists can work from profile photographs as well as live models so the possibilities are endless.
We have a tradition of having each child get their silhouette made during their first park visit. For some reason, I didn't do this when my own children were small, but no problem...their adult profile silhouettes are just as treasured.
Coming it at under $10 as of this writing, you will not find a more meaningful souvenir, so be sure to schedule time at the silhouette studio.
The process is quick and organized. You will sit in a chair, very small children can sit on a parent's lap, and there is a montage of colorful Disney characters for a child to look at to keep them still. The profile is quickly snipped, and becomes two for the price of one, since two are actually created, as mirror images of each other. A helper glues the black silhouette to a piece of white paper with a nostalgic style circle border. Round frames are available for purchase, but we have found the pieces fit nicely in an economical 5" x 7" frame.
