For years, Disney has offered PhotoPass pictures taken by (mostly) friendly cast members scattered in prime picture taking spots around the parks. You were given a card and the photographer would set up your family in the right place, take the picture, scan the card and off you'd go. When you got home you'd go to the PhotoPass site to view your pictures, add borders, autographs, etc., then order a select photo or two or spring for the CD which included all photos and edits. Often times magic touches had been added, such as Tinkerbell standing in an open palm or ghosts hitch-hiking along with you in front of the Haunted mansion.
This was all fun and good, but Disney out did themselves when they truly 'plussed' the experience with more than just the + sign added to the title.
Now there is PhotoPass + ,chock full of goodness and, if pre ordered, a darn good price.
The nuts and bolts:
* At least 14 days before your trip you go here: http://www.disneyphotopass.com/specialoffers/dlrppp.htm & pay your $69.95.
* You will receive in the mail the PhotoPass+ package, hopefully before you leave (you see why you must order more than 14 days before your trip? Heed this).
*Attached to the case with scotch tape (Disney spares no expense), is your voucher. This must be taken with you on your trip and exchanged for the PhotoPass+ card with lanyard that you will have dangling from your neck your entire trip. You exchange your voucher in Disneyland at the Main Street Photo shop and in Disney California Adventure at Kingswell Photo Shop on Buena Vista Street.
*What is so PLUS about this? Well, for the first time, all your ride pictures are included! No more deciding if you want to plunk down $14.95, all you do after exiting any ride that takes your photo is go to the ride picture purchase counter, give them your ride number or point it out, and your card will be scanned saving your ride picture.
*What if your party splits up? You can still get regular PhotoPass Cards, then when home upload the extra numbers along with your PhotoPlus+ number. You will need to have the Photopass+ card for rides, but other opportunities can have you using regular Photopass cards. BIG TIP! Take a picture of any and all PhotoPass cards you have. That way, just in case you lose one, then you will have the code to enter at the PhotoPass site at home.
*Also included in your packet is a Photo Gallery CD with tons of pictures you can use for your personal use, such as scrapbooking. There is also a little brochure.. do not think this is just legal mumbo jumbo! Inside is the code you will later need to order the CD with all of your pictures.
*You can get photos taken all over the park, at dining locations (Goofy's Kitchen, Ariels's Grotto, Disney's PCH Grill &Plaza Inn Character meals), on rides (California Screaming, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Radiator Springs Racers, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror), Character meet and greets, and more. Just be on the lookout and keep that lanyard visible. We have been surprised by a cast member taking our photo unawares then stopping us and scanning our card, all because he noticed the lanyard.
*Don't forget to ask the photographer is there are any special Magic shots available. Some of these only seem to be around for a short time, so take the opportunity when it's available.
Disneyland's Photopass + is a true bargain and provides forever memories on the CD.
