Thanks to Disney D23 #1 ~ Dick Van Dyke & the Vantastix

I'm starting a new series that will highlight the amazing experiences I've been lucky enough to have thanks to Disney's official fan club, D23.

The club is 5 years old and to date has put on 3 Expos, several Destination D's and many, many other events for fans to gather, see and learn, such as movie premiers, studio tours and special events, to name just a few.

For my first article I chose to tell you about  a concert by Dick Van Dyke and his a cappella group, the Vantastix.

Of course, Dick Van Dyke is the stuff of Disney Legends, literally and figuratively, especially well loved for his role as Bert the Chimney Sweep in Mary Poppins. He also appeared in the Disney films Lt. Robinson Crusoe, Never a Dull Moment, and Dick Tracy. I've always been a fan of Mr. Van Dyke's, counting his Dick Van Dyke show as one of the best television comedies of all time, so was very excited to see this concert.

It did not disappoint. Incredibly gracious and warm, the Vantastix performed a rapid fire mix of classic Disney and non Disney songs, filling in with stories and easy banter. A highlight of the evening was the group high stepping to Step in Time and Dick reprising his role as Mr. Dawes Sr., the bank president from Mary Poppins.

Dick Van Dyke & the Vantastix also have a CD out. It's called Put on a Happy Face and includes song's you'd expect (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and some you wouldn't (It's Not Easy Being Green).

This evening would not have been possible without D23, and for those fans who want to peek behind the scenes and to learn and experience all Disney has to offer in their ever widening universe, the club is a tremendous gift.
