Thanks to Disney D23 ~ True Legends of The Golden Horseshoe ~ A Tribute to Wally Boag & Betty Taylor

This event ranks right up there near the top of my most special D23 Events.
It was only coincidence that this program, held at Disneyland August 18, 2011, occurred right before the Disney D23 Expo, but what a fortunate happenstance it was. Not part of the official Expo program, attendees with a Sorcerer ticket were invited to attend this one of a kind, invitation only, intimate event.
The original Golden Horseshoe Revue, much loved by Walt, was a true old west show, with can-can girls, songs, dancing and comedy. Until I saw this program, I wasn't truly aware of the magnificent talent by the show leads.

We were treated to a show and introduced to Disney and Golden Horseshoe dignitaries. Steve Martin delivered a heartfelt tribute via video to the incomparable Wally Boag, whom he called his hero. Wally passed away in June of that year, followed one day later by his long time co-star Betty Taylor, so the event, happening so close to their deaths was bittersweet.
We then watched performances on the giant video screens of several Golden Horseshoe show highlights, and the laughter was as fresh with a current audience as it had been in Walt's day. See for yourself and do a search for Wally Boag on YouTube.

All past performers in the show were invited to stand, with many being introduced. The family members were then presented with beautiful art prints, and we all went away with a souvenir program.

My fellow Expo attendees felt honored to be able to share this event with those who actually had a part is this wonderful part of Disneyland history, and just saying Thanks to D23 seems so small compared to the benefit received.
