Mickey Mouse Hot Chocolate Bombs

All of a sudden Hot Chocolate Bombs are everywhere. Essentially, these little nuggets are simply a chocolate shell filled with hot cocoa mix and miniature marshmallows. When put in a mug with hot milk poured over, the chocolate melts, the marshmallows rise to the top, and a rich and satisfying drink is yours to enjoy.

The variations you can come up with for these are endless, but what better way to add cheer to your holiday drinks than to make the bombs Mickey shape?. You know the old saying, 'everything tastes better shaped like Mickey'.

Assemble what you need, including a silicone half circle mold. Not too big..the bomb has to fit in a mug, and not too small...you need room for cocoa mix and mini  marshmallows. You also need chocolate for the shell, preferably a good quality chocolate chip, hot cocoa mix, I used peppermint flavored, and mini marshmallows. For Mickey ears I used melting chocolate discs by Wilton. You'll also need some type of sprinkles to coat the ears and cover the bomb seal.

To make the shell, simply melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. Start at 30 seconds stir, then add a bit more time as needed, being careful not to over do as it ruins the chocolate. Place a dab of chocolate in the mold, then using the back of a spoon coat mold, paying extra attention to the top, as you want this area sturdy enough for the seal. Place in freezer 10-15 minutes then carefully pop out of mold.

While the shell is in the freezer, coat the chocolate discs with a bit of melted chocolate and dip in sprinkles. Place in freezer to harden.

Fill shell with cocoa mix and mini marshmallows. I found 5 marshmallows fit easily, but I may push for more next time. Carefully press together and seal edge with more melted chocolate, then quickly roll edge in sprinkles. The shells become soft quickly so place back in freezer for a few minutes.

When ears and shells are hard, work quickly to coat ear edges with melted chocolate and place on ball. Hold for a few seconds so it stays in place. To make ball stand upright you may need to place bottom of ball on a hot plate to melt just enough to make a base. Go easy, don't press too hard.

To use, heat milk in a microwave. Place bomb in your mug and pour on hot milk. Stir a bit to incorporate all the goodness and let the chocolate melt.

Store in a cool place or refrigerator.
