A little treat of a cruise, ideal for those who are trying
out cruising for the first time or looking for a quick getaway on the west
coast is Disney’s California and Pacific Coast Cruises.
Taking place in May, these cruises are prequels to the
Disney Wonder beginning her Alaska itineraries.
In 2014, cruises are:
2 nights departing from and returning to San Diego,
California: May 17.
5 nights departing from San Diego, California ending in
Vancouver, Canada with a stop in San Francisco, California: May 19.
Cruises for 2015 are:
2 nights departing from and returning to San Diego,
California: May 15.
3 nights departing from and returning to San Diego,
California with a port call at Ensenada, Mexico: May 17.
5 nights departing from San Diego, California ending in
Vancouver, Canada with a stop in San Francisco, California: May 20.
Are these cruises worth it? Yes! You still get all the
fabulous Disney Cruise Lines experiences in a bite size experience for an
economical price.
What sets Disney above the rest, especially for families
with children?
Atmosphere is top notch, with Disney touches and Disney
Characters. There are wonderful activities and clubs for all age groups of
children, from the young through teen. There is no extra charge for the clubs.
How about adults? Disney has a adult areas with a pool,
coffee shop and much more.
Dining is varied and
mostly included in your fare, as are sodas in the dining rooms and at a deck
station that also includes free ice cream, coffee and hot chocolate. Room
service is 24 hours and is also included. A unique feature of Disney is
rotational dining, where your serving staff rotates to restaurants with you for
your evening meal. Want a cut above dining experience for adults only? For a
small additional fee Palo is a popular brunch or dinner choice.
Entertainment is family friendly and include broadway style
shows and first run movies.
Excursions booked through Disney are geared for families as
well as often offering adult only choices. A benefit of booking excursions
through Disney is that if something should occur causing you to miss your all
aboard time, the ship will wait for you to return. I saw this first hand when a
sudden storm and flood happened while we were at Key West, Florida. The ship
waited for all to safely return and announcements were made for passengers to
know the situation. Everyone made it aboard, soaked, and grateful for the
fluffy towels Disney handed out.
